India’s defence production sector is poised for significant growth as private enterprises play an increasingly prominent role in manufacturing and technology development. Analysts note that integrating private players enhances domestic capability, reduces import dependence, and strengthens strategic autonomy. Policy initiatives, including Defence Acquisition Procedure reforms, offsets, and incentives for indigenous production, are driving private sector engagement.

Tata Advanced Systems Ltd. (TASL), in collaboration with Spanish defence technology firm Indra, has delivered India’s first Lanza-N 3D Air Surveillance Radar (3D-ASR) to the Indian Navy. Installed on a frontline warship, the system has successfully completed sea trials and been fully integrated with shipboard command and control platforms. The radar represents a significant stride toward India’s defence self-reliance, enhancing maritime surveillance and early-warning capabilities.
